on November 16, 2013Thanks for the correction Pat!
Now I'll remember that squarish carpal patch.
When I first saw it in the sky high and far away, I made an assumption right away that it was a Harrier. Then I was so happy it started to circle lower and towards me I quickly prepared to get the shots and didn't re- check later.
I'm glad someone half way around the world is paying attention and keeping me honest.Patrick J. Blake
on November 14, 2013I love this one, Ken. The soft pastel colours really pop with the dark contrast of the bird.
Just one thing...this is a juvenile Rough-legged Hawk, not a Northern Harrier. The underwing pattern is pretty diagnostic, and a harrier would have a longer tail, more like an accipiter than a buteo.
